Thinking differently for renewables with four global offshore wind developers
A sister company to Asset Information Services (AIS) recommended Design Thinking engagement to four of their global offshore wind (OW) clients to help them explore possible digital solutions to common challenges within the industry.
These engagements set the groundwork for AIS’ involvement in subsequent floating OW projects driven by the UK government and private investment.
Solution and results
- AIS held a series of workshops for each of the four OW developers in the UK and Europe for client-selected team members in commissioning, high-voltage offshore transmission, and various engineering disciplines
- Engagements allowed for a better understanding of industry-wide best practice and challenges from financial, political, and engineering perspectives and priorities by harnessing collective expertise and domain knowledge
- AIS was able to better understand and critique its growing role in OW via digital twin in order to pursue development of companion, non-visual asset integrity systems that meet client requirements e.g. subsea cables and other ‘unseen’ portions of the asset
